Choirs

We believe that music serves an important role in our community's growth into a vibrant expression of our mission principles. We do this by:

  • Singing hymns that proclaim God's loving, inclusive invitation, welcoming all into our community
  • Carefully preparing music to create the best possible worship
  • Offering music programs to affirm our belief that ongoing growth and education for all ages is important
  • Drawing on many musical styles and cultures to create our own tradition, linking us to Christians throughout the world and the ages

Music is an integral part of our 10:30 Sunday liturgy year-round, and at our Holy Week and Christmas Eve services. Our primary resources for hymns and service music are the Episcopal Hymnal 1982 and its supplement, Wonder, Love and Praise. We chant a psalm every week, using a variety of plainsong and Anglican chant settings throughout the year. The music is lead by organ, piano, choirs (from September to June), and cantors, and occasionally trumpets, flutes, and other instruments. Our handbell ensemble plays during the Easter and Advent seasons.

Our primary emphasis is on congregational singing and on songs we all sing together in prayer, thanksgiving, and praise. We also offer individual and ensemble opportunities for musicians who would like to offer other special music for worship. No experience is necessary to join any of our music programs, and beginners are completely welcome.

We offer:

  • Senior choir, which sings Sundays from September to May
  • Junior choir, which sings Sundays from September to May
  • Cantors, members of the choirs who rotate on Sundays, year-round
  • Handbell ensemble, a short-term commitment during occasional seasons
  • Liturgical instrumentalists, a short-term commitment for occasional Sundays, year-round
