Our Outreach Committee is always up to something -- finding new ways for us to serve our neighbors. Here's a sampling of current projects:Monthly food collection for the East Providence Community Center next door
The first Sunday of each month the parish collects food that is brought to the East Providence Community Center next door to help feed the needy of East Providence.
If you want to become involved, you can bring food any Sunday you come to church. It will be part of the service on the first Sunday of each month or you can volunteer to bring the food from the church to the Center the week following the official collection.
Periodic Hymn Singing at senior centers.
Join us in bringing cheer and smiles to the elderly of a senior center. All you have to do is show up and sing. No practical singing ability is really needed. Just a passion for making people smile.
Quarterly excursions to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to help with whatever they need.
Want to see what the Rhode Island Community Food Bank looks like and what it does? Join us on one of the excursions to help. You can never tell what the job you will be given is -- but you will know that it's helping feed the hungry.
Epiphany Meal Site at Grace Church in Providence
Help the Grace Church meal site get ready to feed the homeless on a Saturday afternoon. Work begins at 2 p.m. Food is served at 4 p.m. Then stay around for cleanup. Spend an afternoon serving the invisible people of our society. You won't regret the experience. You'll be part of a 6-8 person team.
Clothing and underwear collection for the homeless for Crossroads.
The homeless need socks and underwear year round. And these are difficult things to get. On the THIRD Sunday of each month, beginning in April, we will collect these items and bring them to Crossroads. They distribute the articles to those in need. During the winter months, hats and gloves are added to the list of items needed. The list of items needed changes each month -- so watch closely for the changes in requests. To get involved, just buy something on the list and bring it in.
Prayer of the Month ministry
The SECOND Sunday of each month is the Prayer of the Month. There will be a prayer that all can say. Along with the prayer there will be educational opportunities to learn about whatever the prayer is addressing. If you miss the bulletin, it will also be in the weekly e-newsletter. The prayer is also mailed to our shut-ins so that they can be involved in outreach work, too! Want to help? Think of a good subject to pray about. Or come up with a prayer. You can pass the information on to Sue Hawryluk or Matt Hawryluk.
