Mission > Giving Water, Giving Life (2011)

Giving Water, Giving Life is our 2011 campaign to raise funds to provide a deepwater well for a community in the developing world, through the work of the World Vision organization. On Sunday, June 5, we welcomed David Mitchell, World Vision Senior Managing Director for the Northeast, who has witnessed the results of clean water projects in the developing world. In various forums and classes this Spring, our adults and children have been learning about the value of water in our global community, and the social and evangelical benefits -- to all of us -- of participating in such a valuable project.
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. World Vision serves close to 100 million people in nearly 100 countries around the world -- regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender. World Vision serves alongside the poor and oppressed as a demonstration of God’s unconditional love for all people, with the prayer that through this work, God might heal and strengthen people’s relationships with Him and with one another. The goal is to affirm God’s unconditional love for all people through service to the poor -- which includes providing for daily needs, working to build peace and promote justice, and partnering with churches and individuals to encourage spiritual transformation.
A PBS NewsHour investigative report in 2010 highlighted the importance of clean water, and showed how efforts to provide clean water can strengthen entire communities. Update, Christmastide 2011:
Church of the Epiphany’s first global outreach project, Giving Water, Giving Life, exceeded all of our expectations. We set a goal to raise $13,700 to provide a deep water well to people in desperate need of clean water. The Lord added to our number and by Christmas 2011, Church of the Epiphany was able to send a check in the amount of $17,847 to World Vision! In 2012, we expect to hear about the work that these funds will enable in providing clean water to communities in Ghana.
