Garden

Epiphany's Community Garden has been growing and feeding our bodies and spirits since 2009.

Epiphany's Community Garden has been growing and feeding our bodies and spirits since 2009. We grow produce for donation to the Bread of Life and East Bay Food Pantries, as well as provide individual plots for parish and community members. In 2010 we donated hundreds of pounds of produce to local charity and treated our own tables to everything from spring radishes to green tomato relish.

We encourage you to share plots among two or more individuals or families to facilitate continuity of care over vacations and other travel. We also welcome everybody to work in the communal plots and the general maintenance of the garden.

Information for gardeners — 2011

• Our planting date this year is May 14. If you want to plant earlier it is possible. Ask Anne.

• Our Garden Coordinator is Anne Bryant. She can be contacted by email at adbotr@usa.net or 401-722-4699. Please let Anne know if you need something, if you have a new idea, a question, or if you plan to be away and need someone to weed, water or harvest for you.

• There is a water source including a hose and garden nozzle located on the side of the church building. We also have a rain barrel with hose next to the composter. We trust that all gardeners will be conservative in their use of this resource. Mulching your bed will help your soil retain water.

• As a community we all will contribute to the upkeep of the common spaces and will maintain our own plots by weeding, harvesting, etc. As much as possible, we hope all gardeners will participate in community workdays or evenings in the garden.

• We will do our best to plant plants that will not shade our neighbors’ plots.

• It is our hope and intention that this will be an organic garden and we do not want to use any synthetic fertilizers, insecticides or weed repellent. (ex. Miracle Grow) Resources for organic fertilizers and pest control may be found online or from fellow gardeners.

• We have a shed containing many tools that may be used. Please clean tools before returning them and keep the shed as tidy as you found it. We’ll have a combination lock and share the combination once we know it.

Suggested donation per plot is $40 for the season. This is only a suggested donation; people are welcome to donate any amount or no amount. We welcome the participation of all regardless of ability to contribute financially.

• As we go through the season of growing together, please share ways we can improve the experience for ourselves and any ideas you have about how to invite and share our garden with our neighbors next year.

• It would be fun to have a cookout some evening!

• At the end of the growing season we hope each member will tidy your plot by removing dead plants and planting a cover crop or mulching with organic mulch.

• We have a composter. Instructions for its use will be posted.

• We invite every gardener to grow more than you can use, and to donate the extra produce to the local pantry. Weekly announcements will be made via email to get help with harvesting and transporting. We see this as a way of loving our neighbors through our gardening ministry. Please help when you can!
