Dear
friend,

Road to Emmaus by He Qi
One of the things that I cherish about being a parish priest is that people tell me of how they understand God working in their lives and in our church. This is never more prevalent than in the weeks following the Triduum and Easter Sunday. It is a gift when someone tells you how he or she has experienced the presence of God and they can convey their joy or wonder or gratitude for that. Someone recently told me how he experienced God's tenderness in the foot washing ritual shared with a member he had not met before. Another woman recently shared how she doesn't know quite why she came to our church during Lent, but that somehow she feels that God has called her here. I got an email this week that said, "I feel so loved by the people who have known me very little. I really can feel God's love and presence in your community. The true God's love keeps diminishing in our world today, so when you happen to feel it at this point in time when everyone thinks primarily about themselves and their families, I just praise GOD!" This recognition of God's love causes me to praise God too.
This third Sunday of Easter we will hear the Gospel story of the road to Emmaus. There are several men who experience Jesus on the road, but they don't instantly recognize him. It is only when he sits with them at table, takes the bread, gives thanks for it, and then breaks it and gives it to them, that they recognize him for who he is. They say, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road?" This is a familiar story, not only because we have heard it before, but because we probably have all had experiences when are hearts are moved by an experience of Jesus Christ, but we do not fully recognize it at the time. Sometimes we need to gather with others in worship, to have the scriptures opened to us and to be given the bread of Holy Communion before we recognize how Jesus is present and has been causing our hearts to burn within us.
I look forward to seeing members and friends as we come to the table to share breakfast and the Eucharist this Sunday. The disciples knew the Lord Jesus in the breaking of the bread, and so shall we. Our celebration of Easter continues!
Jennifer

Bishop Search Process

The Standing Committee and Diocesan Council, the groups that oversee the transition process leading to the ordination of the next Bishop of Rhode Island, are forming two committees to conduct the work of that process: a Search & Nomination Committee and a Transition Committee. Two forms related to the process can be found at the new search process website: www.episcopalrisearch.org
If individuals are interested in serving on one of these committees or wish to nominate qualified committee candidates, they are asked to read the Ministry Description & Qualifications and use the Application for Appointment form to submit any nomination(s) to the Standing Committee and Diocesan Council at committees@episcopalrisearch.org . Feel free to send any questions to that same email address. Information about progress in the transition process will be posted periodically at www.episcopalrisearch.org.

New Church Directory

Epiphany is producing a new pictorial directory and we are striving for 100% participation. The remaining photography dates are May 23 & June 8. Time is running out and NOW is the time to make your appointment. We are hoping everyone will have their photo included in the directory as this is a wonderful tool for communication among parishioners. Reserve your appointment time on the signup sheets on the bulletin board in the entrance of the church. Each family/household that participates will receive a complimentary directory and 8 x 10 custom color portrait. You will be able to view and select your portrait electronically from a variety of poses. The entire portrait sitting normally takes less than one hour.
