Sunday is also when we bid farewell to the Rev'd Edward Gammons as Interim Associate Rector and thank him for his delightful time with us.

Dear friend,

June is here and transitions are on the way. Often the beginning of summer brings to mind lazy days, and aside from graduations and weddings, weekends that are fairly uneventful. This is not the case for us as a community this month. We have all manner of celebrations and milestone events. Even if you will not be present for all of these happenings, please keep our church and these people in your prayers.

This Sunday we will be saying "farewell" to Ned Gammons in his official capacity as our Interim Associate Rector. This is our chance to say thank you to Ned for all his enthusiasm, his teaching and his joyful leadership over the last five months. Ned and Gretchen will not be strangers to our community and you can expect to enjoy their company and ministry in the future.

Also this Sunday we have the opportunity to acknowledge the ministries and the education experiences we have shared over the last program year. Our picnic and ministry fair will take place rain or shine, thanks to our Stewardship and Education Commissions. I am very thankful also for the many ministry leaders who are creatively planning ways to show off and celebrate the ministries they lead. It is not to late too late to plan on joining us for all the fun. On June 20 we will be welcoming two new members through baptism, Florence Bryant and Helaina Casey. On the same day we will welcome the Rev'd Edmund L. Harris as our Assistant to the Rector. Edmund will be ordained as a transitional deacon on June 5 in Chicago, and will join us for full time ministry on the 19. He will likely be ordained as a priest in December. Please join me in welcoming him to our community. He is looking forward to sharing ministry with us.

On the 26 of June we will celebrate the marriage of Brooke Fairman and Jeffrey Scorza. They are joining two families together for new life as a family and in Christ. Please keep them as well as their children, Nicholas, Kinzie and Alexander in your prayers as they move through this significant transition in their lives. All this is in addition to our most important community work and celebration: gathering on Sundays for praising and giving thanks to God in worship. As always, I look forward to sharing these celebrations with you.

Jennifer

Dear friend,
This week, we turn a corner in the Christian Year. From now until late fall, our Sunday readings center on the teachings of Jesus. The gospel readings (in a three-year cycle) are mostly from Luke. This Sunday, for example, we see Jesus encountering a funeral procession. Luke is strong on stories of healings, and here we find some of the most beloved parables. Church school and adult forums may be over temporarily, but we can enrich our lives, and our families, by following the scheduled readings. Our e- News will give you what's coming up, week by week, or you can follow the schedule of readings laid out at the back of the Prayer Book. May this be a great journey of discovery for you and yours in the weeks to come.

Blessings,

Ned Gammons
