Dear
friend,
Breakfast on the Beach. That is the scene in this
Sunday's Gospel, and the heart of the Word for us. It
is a wonderful tale of surprise, recognition, and of new
life, as people recognize that Resurrection affects all
sorts of people who trust and follow Jesus. We read
in the Book of Acts, about Saul, on a mission to wipe
out Christians, but whose life is turned around by the
risen Jesus;
Ananais, who is empowered by the Risen one to
restore Paul's sight. Finally the moving encounter of
Peter with Jesus: forgiveness, empowerment, new
life. The marvelous details are interesting; much more
important, they show us that the power and reality of
Easter and the Resurrection went far beyond the day:
they impacted ordinary people, even at breakfast on
the beach. Life was, is, new. Hope blows into our life
like a fresh breeze off the lake. Easter goes on. Our
lives are empowered. Joy breaks out in all sorts of
encounters. So we keep singing Alleluia. It's catching.
Thank God.
Alleluia.
Ned
