Dear friend,
I'd have to say that Christmas is my favorite time of the
year. I'm sure I've written something to that effect
before. But it's true, I love the season. Perhaps I have
a bit of naivete, but there is to me a sense of good will,
peace, and mystery in the air. Sure there's the
insanity, but even that can be fun if it's moderated. But
now the big day is almost here and soon will pass,
and most will go on about
the week as though everything is over. But I'm grateful
that there are 12 days of rejoicing in the outlandish
claim of Christmas: That in some way, in Jesus, God
has come to dwell, and nothing is the same. Nothing
will ever be the same.
I have no idea what God will be up to in the New Year,
for Epiphany, for you, but I do know, as the evangelist
has written, that "what has come into being in him
was life, and the life was the light of all people."
Nothing will ever be the same. What a blessing it has
been for me to be continually surprised by the
tremendous life present in the Epiphany Community,
continually transformed and made new by the light of
Christ.
So rejoice! Nothing will ever be the same.
I hope to see you Sunday, to bid you farewell in
person. If not, as Shakespeare said much better than
I, "Health, Peace and sweet content be yours." It has
been a pleasure.
Tim
